We are looking for:
• A keen individual who is either studying towards or has finished studying an A-Level (or something similar) in IT/ Computing
• Someone who is eager to develop their IT skills and knowledge.
As a Trainee Informatics Assistant you will be involved in:
• Creating a database tool to store and retrieve our data licences
• Populating the database with the data
• Cataloguing a collection of data and software CD’s
• Performing an inventory of the Centre’s hardware, and the software installed on it.
• Transferring data off old UNIX backup tapes.
• Creating a GIS dataset that documents hardcopy map holdings
• Scanning in map holdings
• Possibly assisting the Informatics team with other projects
• This position is initially for a 6-week period, which could potentially be extended.

The UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre, Cambridge, UK, is the specialist biodiversity information and assessment centre of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and is run cooperatively with WCMC 2000, a UK charity. The Centre’s mission is to evaluate and highlight the many values of biodiversity and put authoritative biodiversity knowledge at the centre of decision-making.
