  • Full Description:

Our client is currently seeking a Standards Architect to represent them in SDOs steering the development of standards/specifications with the goal of enlarging the market for wireless communication devices.
Standards Architects also liaise with stakeholders within our client's organization on developments in SDOs, both to ensure that the needs (including our customer's needs) are taken into account during the specification writing process, and to ensure that employees are fully aware of relevant developments in standards/specifications.

    Key Responsibilities:
*Create and maintain a list of stakeholders for the SDOs regularly providing information and guidance to stakeholders within CSR on developments in standards/specifications to ensure that products take best advantage of developments in standards/specifications.
*Gather information from stakeholders to ensure that SDOs work is aligned with expected market/technology developments. This function will include both the short term steering of current work in SDOs and also longer term work taking future customer and market requirements and addressing them through SDO roadmaps.
*Prioritise, manage and track memberships and participation in SDOs including activities in committees/working groups by the Global Standards team, direct stakeholders and other staff, to ensure that our client is represented in areas of strategic importance. This function will include working throughout the organization to raise the profile of standards/specification work and to gain resources for SDO work.
*Work directly with SDOs to develop, prototype and maintain specifications, test specifications and standards/specification development processes, assuming leadership positions where necessary (e.g. directors, chairs, vice chairs, editors).
*Where we cannot directly influence SDOs, recognise this and develop and maintain relationships with influential and key people, managing lobbying within the SDOs and elsewhere to promote directions for the good of the overall industry.
*Develop and deliver training courses, to promote awareness and knowledge of standards/specifications throughout the organization.
*Work within the company to co-ordinate planning and delivery of interoperable prototypes for new specifications/standards.
*Assist SDOs with media presentations, and speak/write authoritatively on standards related matters on behalf of the company.

    Person Specification:

    Required:
*Experience of working with communication specifications including a thorough understanding of protocol stacks
*Skilled at technical review: analysing specifications and detecting weaknesses (including both ambiguities and areas likely to be difficult to implement or likely to cause interoperability issues)
*Skilled at technical writing. (Skilled at creating and contributing to specifications and processes whilst bearing in mind the needs of internal stakeholders and of the wireless communications market as a whole.)
*Willing to travel internationally as required, working independently away from the office.
*Excellent oral and written communication skills (able to create and deliver effective and persuasive technical presentations to a range of audiences via email, telephone conferences, and face to face in groups sizes ranging from one to one through small teams to large conferences)
*Diplomatic and a good team worker (able to work in close co-operation with competitors, clients and customers within SDOs. Able to effectively exert influence in the absence of any direct control. Able to develop relationships with influential and key people within SDOs e.g. directors, chairs, vice chairs)
*Leadership ability (able to co-ordinate and mentor participants in SDOs, and take leading positions in SDOs as required)

    Desired:
    *Experience of wireless communication specifications
*Track record within standards development organisations of contributing to standards/specifications/test specifications/processes
*Experience of matrix management (responsibility for resources outside direct line management tree)
